Where are you from (born and raised)? And where did you grow up?
I was born in Toronto. Moved to Atlanta when I was 7. Atlanta streets raised me. Clayco and Decatur. Been here ever since.
What inspired your producer name? And where did you get the name from?
Like most of us from 2009-11 I was a twitter troll. I would roast ppl on twitter and go viral with jokes. I changed my name from JMuzik to JayUncut bc I was raw and unfiltered. With the followers I gained from twitter I would find artists to work with. Rest was history.
When did you start doing music? And when did you start taking it seriously? Be as detailed as you’d like.
I was always playing music all my life but I started taking it serious once I met Regina Belle 15 years ago. She gave me an opportunity and I learned I could make money producing music.
In your opinion, what makes you stand out from other/current producers out there?
I have a love for independent artists. They say I have the most organized beat pack in the industry. And I usually give it away. Like literally send the link to any body who wants it. Of course business is handled once you record to any beats but I try to stay assessable to artists who are trying to come up.
Who is your motivation and why?
My dad is my motivation. He got me into this life and when he suddenly past away, his last conversation to me was to go hard, take this gift to the next level. So as he’s sitting up guiding and protecting me, I’m going to honor his requests.
Any life changing stories/incidents that impacted your music career, your decision to do music, your journey, etc?
After I landed my first placement with Regina Belle I got lazy. I got a little money and started tricking off. I was blowing money in strip clubs, gambling in poker. Chasing women. Putting my energy in toxic relationship. I was doing everything but making music. I went broke. Like broke broke. Meanwhile my brother, Cassius Jay, who I started music with was thriving. Producing for Justin Bieber then Bankroll Fresh. He started making money. I let 5 years go by being a bum while watching my bro come up. So I left my toxic relationship and started finding new artists to work with. I met a super dope artist named Noell who just needed someone to take her music serious. I was hungry. She was too. We link and met so many people while traveling the world. Those connections turned into more connections and my network grew each year as well as my sound. Now I’m a producer at Sony ATV and Rubi Rose main producer. I’ve said in a IG post only two people I owe my music career to is Noell and Rubi.
What are your goals when it comes to your music career?
Music executive at a major label to eventually starting my own. Which is not far but I’m being very strategic.
What are you currently working on?
The next level awaits. Trust more is on the way. I’m dropping a tape myself with different artists I’ve discovered and worked with.
